Congratulations Class of 2016

Smiles spread across the soon to be graduates faces, as they marvel at the awaiting stage. They flip their tassel back and forth, adjust their grad cap, and pose for a few last selfies. Meanwhile, parents take this opportunity to embarass their kids one last time by yelling much too loudly and flashing their camera in an attempt to capture the candid moments. As the chatter that filled the Drake Knapp Center quieted, senior Brett Shaw opened the night with his speech. He described the class of 2016’s journey through high school and the hard work it entailed. He truthfully added, “We might have spent too much time on Netflix instead.” As the ceremony progressed, Principal Kirk Johnson presented awards to the Valedictorian, Mackensie Schuster, and the Salutatorian, Noah Smith, and gave recognition to the National Honors Society and Silver Cord recipients. The audience was overcome by the meaningful moment Emily Brekke created during her speech to remind everyone that kindness matters. This emotion continued when A Capella performed Rene Clausen’s “Prayer”. The ceremony came to a close when finally the graduates  were presented with the opportunity to walk the stage. To conclude the year, Grace Tobin wished a final congratulations to the class of 2016 as they met this “new threshold.”
