From the movie that captured the hearts of teenage girls and guys everywhere, Waukee produces the stage version of High School Musical in their own unique way.

Troy Bolton (senior Ridg Downs) is on vacation at a ski resort and meets a dark haired beauty named Gabriella Montez (senior Taylor Michl) this sparks the start of something new when they sing karaoke together. Bolton  returns to East High with the championship basketball game a week away but a surprise waits for him in homeroom as Montez has transferred to East High.

The star crossed lovers begin their journey together with a few song breaks here and there. Downs and Michl light up the stage with their beautiful duet vocals that almost perfectly match the actors in the movie High School Musical. Together they capture the audience scene after scene with their amazing acting skills.

Of course every musical needs there villain or in this case a duo of villains. Sharpie and Ryan Evans (Maddie Pals and Zachary Smith) are the president and vice president of the drama club and will stop at nothing to make sure Bolton and Montez won’t be in their school musical. Making the characters their own, Pals and Smith entertain the audience with their great interpretations of  the villains of this musical.

Cliques collide to help Bolton and Montez successfully compete in the scholastic decathlon, the championship game, and the call back for the musical. In a beautiful performance of the song Breaking Free and landing the spot in the musical, Bolton leads his team to a victory in the state championship basketball game.

Taylor Mckessie (Poni Lejukole) leads the brainiac clique of East High. Mckessie uses her intelligence to formulate a plan that allows Troy and Gabriel to perform their call back in the musical.

The theater department was all in this together as they pulled of a spectacular stage version of the musical for everyone to enjoy. Mrs. Pleggenkuhle’s hard work and dedication to the musical payed off with an amazing performance and left the audience with high hopes for next years show.
