And then there were 4. The Regional Semis and Finals have wrapped up with several unexpected teams advancing. Loyola’s and Oral Roberts Cinderella runs came to an end in the Sweet Sixteen. In their place, 2 new teams wore cinderella’s slippers and advanced to the elite 8. Both teams coming out of the PAC-12 conference. The 12 seed Beavers of Oregon State who were picked to finish last in the conference in the preseason polls, then a team just south the 11 seed the Bruins of UCLA became only the second team to from the first 4 to the elite 8. The top seed Gonzaga, Baylor, and Michigan took care of business all winning their games by double digits. Alabama lost to UCLA leaving Houston as the only 2 seed remaining after Iowa and Ohio State were beat in the first 2 rounds. USC took care of Oregon with the Mobley Brothers dominating. All eyes turned to Oral Roberts who held a lead getting up to 12 points at times only to fall to the 3 seed Arkansas Razorbacks.
Oregon State’s run came to an end in the elite 8 to the hands of the 2 seed Houston Cougars. One Cinderella team advanced to the final 4. The UCLA Bruins became the first team to go from the First Four to the Final Four after defeating the 1 seed Michigan Wolverines. The other two 1 seeds remaining advanced with ease with Gonzaga defeating USC 85-66 and Baylor defeating Arkansas 81-72. One Saturday Houston will play Baylor and Gonzaga will play UCLA for a chance to play for the national championship.
