The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament has many names, The big dance, the road to the final four. March Madness. It is a tournament that means so much to so many people. Whether they are filling out their bracket or following a Cinderella team to the championship there is something for everyone to like about the tournament. The Field of 68 has been revealed, and for the first time in two years, March Madness will be played after last year’s cancellation. Headlining the bracket here in Iowa are two matchups. For the first time since 2008, the Drake Bulldogs are going dancing. Drake will play in the first four as an 11 seed against The Wichita State Shockers out of the American Athletic Conference. Drake is led by forward Shaquann Hemphill who will be just returning from injury after averaging 26 minutes a game and 14 points, Drake will be without point guard Romann Penn who is out for the season with a broken foot. Wichita State is led by guard Tyson Etienne who averages just above 34 minutes a game and 17 points. Drake is coached by Darian DeVries, father of Waukee Senior Tucker DeVries. Wichita State is coached by Isaac Brown who was appointed on March 1st, 2021. The winner will advance to the first round to play the 6th seed USC Trojans of the Pac-12. This game is to be played on Thursday, March 18th at 6:27 pm. The Iowa Hawkeyes are returning to the tournament for the second time in a row. They will be playing in the first round as a 2 seed against the 15 seed Grand Canyon Lopes out of the WAC. Iowa is led by National Player of the Year favorite Luka Garza. Garza averages around 31 minutes a game and 23 points. GCU is lead by Center Asbjorn Midtgaard. He averages 31 minutes a game and 14 points. The winner of this game will advance to the second round to face the winner of Oregon versus VCU. This game will be played on Saturday, March 20th at 6:25 pm. If Drake and Iowa were to both advance to the sweet sixteen they would play each other.
