Movies Coming Out in 2020

October 2, 2020

With Corona shutting down movie theaters for 6 months, we were left to our own devices to find the next great cinematic masterpiece to watch. We were not disappointed either with movies like Hamilton that came out during the Fourth of July weekend and the final installment of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Now with movies like Words on Bathroom Walls, Tenet and The Broken Hearts Gallery being some of the first to have showings during COVID, itn is about time we take a look forward at the movies to get excited for in 2021.

The 1992 horror movie Candyman is getting a modern makeover. Written by Get Out director Jordan Peele, watch out for it coming to the silver screen sometime in 2021. The King’s Man is coming out on February 26, 2021. Starring Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada) and Harris Dickinson (The Darkest Minds), The King’s Man will serve as a prequel to the previous two Kingsman movies. The tv series, The Sopranos, is receiving a prequel March 2021-style. The Many Saints of Newark will star Michael Gandolfini as Tony Soprano, whose father made the role famous 21 years ago.

The third installment of the Fantastic Beasts series will pop up on the big screen in November of 2021. Fantastic Beasts 3 is directed by David Yates and will star Eddie Redmayne and Johnny Depp. The 1986 film Top Gun is getting a sequel in 2021. Top Gun: Maverick starring Tom Cruise and Miles Teller, will premiere on July 2, 2021. Musical mastermind Lin Manuel-Miranda will have his 2008 hit Broadway musical turned movie In the Heights come out in 2021. Starring Anthony Ramos (Hamilton) and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn 99) and directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) it is destined to be a show to remember.

A couple of Waukee students were asked what movie they are most excited to see in 2021. Tyler Andrew answered with, “The Batman,” he continued, “I have grown up watching Marvel and DC movies with my dad, and the trailer looks really good.” While Paige Falor responded with, “In the Heights!” She added, “Because it’s my favorite musical and it’s been delayed to next summer.” While watching movies in the comfort of your own home and comfy clothes has been a perk to COVID, everyone is ready to go back to movie theaters. Everyone is ready for a newer experience and a change of scenery. Once these movies, along with others, are released so many people will have something to look forward to. No matter what genre you’re into.
