Predicting the Future with Waukee

2014 was one for the books. The year started off with a bang on January 26th when Royals by Lorde won song of the year at the 2014 Grammy’s. The Seattle Seahawks dominated Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2nd, defeating the Denver Broncos 43 to 8. Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters hard July 31st, earning $333,055,258 in the 2014 box office. 2015 has arrived and it brings the promise of another stellar year.

Ringing in the new year, the 57th Grammy’s will be broadcasted on February 28th, and fans are waiting to see who will host this years’ show. Nominated for song of the year is Hozier with Take Me To Church, Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainors’s All About That Bass, Chandelier from Sia, and rounding out the nominees, Sam Smith and Stay With Me.

Starting off February, two teams will battle for the Vince Lombardi Trophy on the 1st. Many teams show promise such as the Green Bay Packers who are 12-4, New England Patriots who are 12-4, Denver Broncos who are 12-4, Seattle Seahawks who are 12-4, and Dallas Cowboys with 12-4.

Many blockbusters are hitting theaters, and this year will be a big year for film, with tons of sequels and even a few classics remade. Five of the biggest movies coming out are Disney’s Cinderella, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Pitch Perfect 2.

A group of 30 Waukee high school students were asked to complete a survey pertaining to 2015. The questions were:

  • What song will win song of the year at the Grammy’s?
  • Who will win this year’s Super Bowl?
  • What movie will be this year’s biggest blockbuster?

The predicted winners were Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, the Green Bay Packers, and the Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2. Waukee has spoken, so shake off the haters, go pack go, and may the odds be ever in your favor…
