This past week, I went to a few restaurants in the Des Moines Metro area to try some new foods. Read below to see what I found!
Samurai Sushi and Hibachi
Whether you’re searching for a peaceful sushi date, or a fun family outing, Samurai will leave you satisfied. Samurai Sushi and Hibachi in Jordan Creek Town Center serves as a fantastic dual choice restaurant. Half of the restaurant is a peaceful sushi eatery with beautiful fish tanks and a live sushi bar, while the other half serves as a hibachi grill with long, group tables and performances from the hibachi chef. Samurai is a pleasant, enjoyable place to visit. It has a wonderful staff and many options that are gluten-free, vegan and low-carb.
I tried the the most common sushi rolls, the California Roll, the Amazing Roll and the Las Vegas Roll. The California Roll included crab, cucumber and avocado. The California Roll is always my go-to roll when trying new sushi places and I was left very satisfied. The Las Vegas Roll is the top customer choice and it is clear to see why. The roll is filled with shrimp, avocado, crab and cream cheese. Lastly, I tried the Amazing Roll, which has mango, raw salmon, avocado, topped with mango sauce. All of the rolls were absolutely amazing and I would recommend Samurai.
Although I did not eat from the Hibachi portion of the restaurant, I did speak with a customer who said, “Samurai’s Hibachi grill would be a fun place to go on a date or with a large group of friends.”
Kue’d Smokehouse brings a taste of Southern BBQ to Waukee. The smokehouse gained a lot of popularity from the show BBQ Pitmasters where the Kue’d owner won in 2010. The family-owned business has a friendly, tight-knit staff who serves the food quickly.
I ordered the brisket and turkey with a side of mac and cheese and homemade chips which came with the pickles and bread. The main meats were cooked perfectly and reminded me of my favorite Southern barbeque. The mac and cheese was the best I had ever had, the thick cheese was unreal and is a must-try for any customer. The entire meal was so enjoyable, but my all-time favorite thing to get from Kue’d is the pickles. I am a huge pickle fan and Kue’d has by-far the best spicy pickles I have ever tried.
Kue’d Smokehouse has unbelievable barbeque, which leads to many returning customers, myself included.
Mi Patria in West Des Moines is different than any other restaurants in the area. It highlights foods made in Ecuador and has gained a lot of popularity from its appearance on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.
When visiting Mi Patria, I ordered the beef empanadas and the churrasco. The empanadas were brought to us quickly with a side of salsa verde. The empanadas were full of flavor and so delicious with the salsa verde. I would definitely recommend this appetizer. Shortly after, my churrasco was served. It had a perfectly grilled steak with white rice, beans, a fried egg, avocado and sliced plantains. This meal exceeded my expectations. It was a large amount of food and I had to take it home to finish it later. My experience with the wonderful staff and amazing food, will have me returning here soon.
