October 24, 2018

The Waukee Volleyball team began postseason play this evening. The action kicked off with the Warriors hosting Indianola in the regional game. Waukee bested their opponents in all three sets with game wins by scores of 25-17, 25-12, 25-20. With the victory, their record improves to 28 wins on the season with just 14 losses.

Senior Captain Maggie Clark attested their success to the preparation put forth towards this contest, “We definitely keyed in on their bigger players, we scouted them all week, and watched them play Ottumwa so we were ready coming from that aspect.” Through vigorous practice and walk throughs this past week, Clark also noted the focus the team had to bring to the table, “We really focused in at practice on controlling our side and what we could do offensively.”

Coach Candice Palea emphasized what they did this week to help the Warriors come

out on top, “Lots of practice, lots of run throughs, just preparing and watching game film both them and us to figure out our weaknesses and their weaknesses.”

Waukee advances to the next round which sets them up to play Urbandale, they rank 10th and 9th in the state. The winner will move on to play in the State Tournament in Cedar Rapids. The deciding match-up will take place at Urbandale on Monday, October 29th, the game will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Palea commented on the team’s readiness moving forward into the game against the Jayhawks early next week, “We are ready, I think the girls have some urgency to get this next one, they want it really bad so let’s see if they show up next monday.” The girls will hope to capitalize on the momentum from the past game moving forward. With postseason play upon us, the team will be in store for make or break action. This makes every game crucial with eyes on that ever brighter end goal to cap off a magical season.
